Was brought into the YOXI project by Jaki at Arrow Root. The client supplied all of the designs and required me to build a fully-functional and flexible WordPress them, customized to their needs. It’s not WordPress MU – just has some special user templates, as well as a wicket Theme Options page that lets the client customize a lot of the css, pitch, and video information easily.

The YOXI pilot project was publicized in GOOD.is.

Evernote came to me with their theme already fully designed and asked me to implement it into a theme. It has a number of special features:

  • Featured posts – there are grabbed based on the ‘featured’ tag and displayed as you see here.
  • Search results – instead of the standard search results, these grab a thumbnail of the image associated with the post (or a default image, if required) and use a special, shorter excerpt.
  • Customized AddThis – using the AddThis service, but 100% customized for Evernote
  • Tree-display for comments – this was mostly a feat of careful css programming, but also required entirely customizing the WordPress output of comments. Strategy explained here.

The SSDSA’s website runs on WordPress and has the following partial list of features:

  • Rotating images, larger on the homepage, smaller on internal pages, showing the colorful diversity of people and activities as SSDSA schools
  • Dynamic Announcement and Events listing which update automatically on the homepage and in custom widgets in the sidebar
  • RSS feeds of both Announcements and Events
  • Password Protected pages containing proprietary MaToK information for enrolled teachers only
  • Many custom plugins and shortcodes on the back-end to make additional data-management easy
  • And more!

Tim and Amy provided me with a design they produced in-house and asked me to turn it into a WordPress theme with a variety of functional requirements. They got this fully-functional widgetized theme that does everything they need.

The main client-facing site is a WordPress-driven site with a plethora of custom shortcodes. It leverages the existing WordPress post objects to handle a variety of different types of content, making it easy for the synagogue staff to manage content. The site also uses some excellent plugins, some of them custom-hacked by yours truly, including CFormsII, WP-Shopping Cart, Post Expirator, and more.

The second part of the project was a custom application built with CakePHP (temporarily named BJ Forms App) that allows staff to create and manage event and event details and create new signup forms, and allows site visitors to register and pay for events.

The project was a massive undertaking that was a collaboration with Daniel of Kestin Technology who provided some of the strategizing and much of the project management. Design was provided by the client.

  • WordPress-driven custom design and theme
  • Custom [shortcodes] to produce some content
  • Active tabs on homepage containing content from different WordPress ‘pages’
  • Use of Flutter to produce templates for ‘Location’ pages
  • Flash widget at top left to bring dynamism to site
  • Leverage of WordPress ‘posts’ to produce ongoing list of site updates
  • Multiple templates for different page types
