A custom-built CMS that they can use to manually manage all of their photographers, illustrators and videographers and each artist’s galleries, images, and videos is what we did for Monaco Reps. Collaborating with an in-house designer, Springthistle create a custom MySQL-based back-end, using CakePHP. Everything, from the homepage to the galleries to the images, is dynamic and easily changable by the client.

Originally built in 2004, this website got a major overhaul in 2010, with a new design, updated WordPress blog, and colorbox overlays everywhere. It still has the same custom cms built in 2004, back before WordPress offered custom post types. Ah, the old days. Some day, when she’s got time, this whole site needs to be converted to WordPress.

The Department of Genetics at Rutgers University has a large faculty each of whom needs a website where they can publish their research, current lab activities, and contact information. They wanted to be able to give each faculty member a website without the cost of paying for each individual website development project.

Springthistle built them a multi-user CMS using Cake. Administrative users can create faculty users. Faculty can log in, using the same University-system-wide login they use for their other activities, and manage their websites by doing the following things:

• add, edit, and re-order pages
• upload and manage images and other files
• change theme and website colors and fonts
• choose among rollover menus
• submit feedback easily from within the system
• and more

The main client-facing site is a WordPress-driven site with a plethora of custom shortcodes. It leverages the existing WordPress post objects to handle a variety of different types of content, making it easy for the synagogue staff to manage content. The site also uses some excellent plugins, some of them custom-hacked by yours truly, including CFormsII, WP-Shopping Cart, Post Expirator, and more.

The second part of the project was a custom application built with CakePHP (temporarily named BJ Forms App) that allows staff to create and manage event and event details and create new signup forms, and allows site visitors to register and pay for events.

The project was a massive undertaking that was a collaboration with Daniel of Kestin Technology who provided some of the strategizing and much of the project management. Design was provided by the client.

Springthistle has done a number of projects for the JOI, including:

• Big Tent Judaism, which is a designed and custom-built PHP website with a custom CMS to submit, manage and display Outreach Organizations, and also pulls in certain blog posts from the main JOI website,
• The Mother’s Circle, which is built with PHP and a custom CMS that allows staff to add and edit pages,
• The Grandparents Circle, which is a custom-designed and -built WordPress website,
• JOPLIN, the Jewish Outreach Professionals Log-In Network, which includes required signup and tracks downloaded documents,
• and the JOI blog, which runs on WordPress and integrate seamlessly with the pre-existing joi.org webiste.

Singer, teacher and performer Claudia Hommel needed a brand-new website to replace her late 90′s one. She specifically needed her new site to have a fresh, sharp and elegant design, and she needed to be able to update everything herself. She had some very specific things she wanted to improve on from her old site — easy to navigate, a menu structure that allows for the addition of new things, good html to expand for a gallery, and a lot of other things. She got everything she wanted.

This global investment firm, tagline ‘global asset management,’ needed a revamped website more userfriendly and flexible than their old site. Springthistle built them a brand-new from-the-ground-up custom website within a custom templating system. WO also got a custom flash animation (designed by someone within their firm) that Springthistle implemented. They also needed an admin panel where they can easily update their oft-changing prospectuses etc.

An early-90s website needed to be redesigned and put into a format that nontechnical people could run on their own, behind the scenes. Working with a team, we created this brand-new site for the coop, with a new design, dynamic menu, and content driven by a custom CMS.
