A custom-built CMS that they can use to manually manage all of their photographers, illustrators and videographers and each artist’s galleries, images, and videos is what we did for Monaco Reps. Collaborating with an in-house designer, Springthistle create a custom MySQL-based back-end, using CakePHP. Everything, from the homepage to the galleries to the images, is dynamic and easily changable by the client.

The Department of Genetics at Rutgers University has a large faculty each of whom needs a website where they can publish their research, current lab activities, and contact information. They wanted to be able to give each faculty member a website without the cost of paying for each individual website development project.

Springthistle built them a multi-user CMS using Cake. Administrative users can create faculty users. Faculty can log in, using the same University-system-wide login they use for their other activities, and manage their websites by doing the following things:

• add, edit, and re-order pages
• upload and manage images and other files
• change theme and website colors and fonts
• choose among rollover menus
• submit feedback easily from within the system
• and more

The main client-facing site is a WordPress-driven site with a plethora of custom shortcodes. It leverages the existing WordPress post objects to handle a variety of different types of content, making it easy for the synagogue staff to manage content. The site also uses some excellent plugins, some of them custom-hacked by yours truly, including CFormsII, WP-Shopping Cart, Post Expirator, and more.

The second part of the project was a custom application built with CakePHP (temporarily named BJ Forms App) that allows staff to create and manage event and event details and create new signup forms, and allows site visitors to register and pay for events.

The project was a massive undertaking that was a collaboration with Daniel of Kestin Technology who provided some of the strategizing and much of the project management. Design was provided by the client.
