Evernote came to me with their theme already fully designed and asked me to implement it into a theme. It has a number of special features:

Featured posts – there are grabbed based on the ‘featured’ tag and displayed as you see here.
Search results – instead of the standard search results, these grab a thumbnail of the image associated with the post (or a default image, if required) and use a special, shorter excerpt.
Customized AddThis – using the AddThis service, but 100% customized for Evernote
Tree-display for comments – this was mostly a feat of careful css programming, but also required entirely customizing the WordPress output of comments. Strategy explained here.

The SSDSA’s website runs on WordPress and has the following partial list of features:

Rotating images, larger on the homepage, smaller on internal pages, showing the colorful diversity of people and activities as SSDSA schools
Dynamic Announcement and Events listing which update automatically on the homepage and in custom widgets in the sidebar
RSS feeds of both Announcements and Events
Password Protected pages containing proprietary MaToK information for enrolled teachers only
Many custom plugins and shortcodes on the back-end to make additional data-management easy
And more!

Tim and Amy provided me with a design they produced in-house and asked me to turn it into a WordPress theme with a variety of functional requirements. They got this fully-functional widgetized theme that does everything they need.

These folks came to me after having launched their site entirely on their own a few months earlier. They had reached a point where they wanted to do more and wanted to have a new look, but couldn’t keep doing it entirely alone. They worked with a logo designer and then handed everything over to me to improve.

I gave them a makeover from the old theme (blacks, yellows, greys) to the new one (blues, whites, usability).

They seem pleased: “April, WordPress guru and founder of Springthistle Design, created a look for the blog that creatively incorporated our new logo and greatly improved the user experience. She held our hands all along the way and made the process feel simple (even when we know it wasnâ€™t).”

A blog about Rhodia pads and related things. Was handed this site along with an existing theme which needed tweaking and customizing. The bloggers can handle day-to-day changes, archiving, and widgets in the sidebar themselves.

Jewish Outreach Institute

Springthistle has done a number of projects for the JOI, including:

Big Tent Judaism, which is a designed and custom-built PHP website with a custom CMS to submit, manage and display Outreach Organizations, and also pulls in certain blog posts from the main JOI website,
The Mother’s Circle, which is built with PHP and a custom CMS that allows staff to add and edit pages,
The Grandparents Circle, which is a custom-designed and -built WordPress website,
JOPLIN, the Jewish Outreach Professionals Log-In Network, which includes required signup and tracks downloaded documents,
and the JOI blog, which runs on WordPress and integrate seamlessly with the pre-existing joi.org webiste.

Meggan Thompson

Artist Meggan Thompson has begun to expand her art creation and is beginning to show her work. She needed a site that would be easy for her, an extreme non-technical person, to edit and keep up to date. Her new site, built with WordPress, includes a blog that she can easily add to herself as well as an online gallery of her work that she can also keep up to date herself.

Monaco Reps

A custom-built CMS that they can use to manually manage all of their artists and each artist’s galleries, collections, and photographs is what we did for Monaco Reps. Collaborating with an in-house designer, Springthistle create a custom MySQL-based back-end, using php to connect. Everything, from the homepage to the galleries to the news page, is dynamic and easily changable by the client.

Nihil Obstat

A custom-designed and – built blog, running on WordPress.

When CCL dcided to retire the LCSW blog that Karen had been authoring for a long while, they requested an off-site rejplacement called Nihil Obstat. NO has a custom theme designed from scratch and implemented as a theme in a unique WordPress installation set up separate from CCL, but connected through links.
